		<description><![CDATA[Wow, poignant quick pic on the quickly diminishing lands that are central to the survival of orangutans. While palm oil is tooted as a healthy substitute for saturated fat, its mass production is decimating the population of wild orangutans and leaving a beleaguered trail of orphaned and injured animals in its bitter wake.

I lost my taste for or--s when I heard what was happening in Borneo. How orangutans risk the loss of life and limb to stay with their young under the threat of deforestation. They only breed once in the span of seven years and their name is derived from the Malay words &#039;orang hutan&#039;, which means &#039;person of the forest&#039;.

It is highly likely that these sentient and insightful beings, who “confirm[ed] Aesop’s fable” (see below), will be extinct in the wilds of Borneo in the time it takes for them to bear young, unless collective consciousness takes root in the human psyche and reverses their course. I have begun to chomp on dark chocolate (without palm oil) which benefits endangered species.
